Welcome to Tectonic Hazards.
Here you will find some of the slideshows that we use in class and links to various other resources to help you understanding. It is a work in progress and will forever be evolving!
I have created a Personalised Learning Chart for each of you. You will find a link to this here. You will need to copy this and rename it with your own name and share with me. It is an opportunity for you to reflect on your own learning and me to keep track of how you are getting on in class. You may choose to use a paper copy.

Pinatubo Documentary
Below is the NOVA documentary I mentioned in class. NOVA is the public broadcasting service in the US. It is a little old - however it is certainly worth a watch. It gives you a good idea of the timeline of event and the work that vulcanologists did in order to help save many lives.
Half term homework
Over this half term you will need to ensure that you are thoroughly familiar with the content we have covered thus far. Make sure you update the PLCs - I will be checking! You will face a few exam questions pretty soon so it is best to be prepared.
The comparative analysis of the Haitian and Christchurch/Canterbury earthquakes needs to be completed in a way that ensures that you have a good grasp of the preparation and responses for each event. Please ensure that you explore a range of sources to gain a broad and detailed picture.
Below is a JourneymanTV documentary on the response to the Christchurch earthquake. It is certainly worth a response. I do find it a little biased at times - especially when you compare he experience of people in Haiti with that of people in Christchurch (however I would wonder if I would be saying this if I lived in Christchurch.

The structure of the Earth
|
It is important that you have a sound understanding of the structure of the Earth. You will need to learn the key layers of the Earth and their characteristics. The slideshow on the left is one I began last year...and may finish soon. It describes the key reasons for the immense heat emanating from the Earth's core which ultimately drives plate tectonics.

10/9/15 This slideshow explores some of the evidence for continental drift. You need to be able to evaluate the strength of the evidence.
